Welcome to 5th grade!
I am Mrs. Holtey (Whole-Tie) and I am excited to be your teacher. This is an eMints classroom which means we will be using computers daily. You will be graded on individual assignments as well as group assignments and your cooperation within your group.
Classroom Rules:
Be on Time
Be Respectful
Be Kind
Be Responsible
Be Honest
Be a Hard Worker
Assignments
Generally, assignments are due the day they are given. Students may stay in to complete work at recess as long as I do not have recess duty. Assignments may also be taken home and completed that night but are due the next morning before the tardy bell.
Homework/Planners
Every student will be issued a planner. Planners are to be used to track homework and reading minutes. Please ask to see your student's planner every day. Reading minutes need to be logged on the monthly page so they can be more easily tracked. Reading minutes will be collected every Monday morning, this is part of their reading grade.
Homework will be given every day, except the last day of the week. Math and reading homework will go home daily and needs to be returned the following day. Spelling homework will be given on Monday and needs to be returned the last day of the week. Occasionally a project may be assigned as homework with a clear due date this information should be written in planners.
Homework and class assignments are due on time and points will be deducted from any late work.
Absences
Students learn best when they attend school every day and are on time. That being said, students should not attend school if they have a contagious illness. Please provide a note with your child when they return to school after an absence which explains the reason for the absence. Each student is responsible for getting work that was missed and returning it at the appropriate time. For every day missed, the student has that many days to turn in missing work. Please mark on your paper that you were absent so I do not deduct points from your score as a late assignment.
Food/Gum/Candy
Lake Ridge is a Gold Medal School and treats are kept at a minimum. Food, gum, and candy are not allowed in the classroom unless given with teacher permission. Any treats must be eaten in the classroom or the lunchroom. No food is allowed on the playground.
As your teacher I promise:
To treat each student with respect.
To provide all students with an orderly and safe classroom.
To consistently and fairly implement necessary rules and consequences.
To provide appropriate motivation for all students.
To provide times for students to come in and receive extra help when needed.
To teach all students the content of the 5th grade Core Curriculum developed by the State of Utah and Granite SchoolDistrict.
